Why is the boat burnt ?

A fisherman wanted to steal the Saint’s relics. To punish him, some other fishermen seized his boat and burnt it as a mark of reprisal and as an expiatory sacrifice.

It was Prince Louis II who took up and introduced the custom of setting fire to the symbolic fishing boat.

Once the boat has consumed, many faithful residents pick up the burnt nails. These nails are like simple souvenirs for some or can have a great emotional aspect for others.
